| This all started when we bought
a rock tumbler...of course we had all these very kewl rocks but then
I thought could we make beach glass?? Sure can, just takes a special
grit as rather than polishing, we wanted to "unpolish" and
of course get rid of the nasty sharp edges. And now I have a new product
- Tumbled Glass Packs
Embossing on the tumbled
glass is basically very simple, the trick is to use unmounted
stamps so that you can wrap the stamp around the curves of the glass
and a steady hand. I used clear embossing ink then rolled the glass
in the powder and gently tapped it off. Again, as I have mentioned
in other embossing how-to's I keep all my powders in plastic sandwich
box containers so rolling the glass was easy to do and I didn't
waste any powder. You need to use embossing powder that is opaque
if you are using a darker glass and any color goes if the glass
is clear or light colored. The Bmuse powders that are opaque are
Eggshell White, all the
metallics, and the Pastel
Opaque colors. One thing that is IMPORTANT to remember is that
glass takes quite a bit longer to come to the 200 degrees necessary
to melt the embossing powder, be patient and keep you heat gun moving
over the area until you have all the powder melted..And it takes
quite a bit to cool down as well...be careful, let the glass sit
for 10 minutes or so once you have embossed it before working with
it again. Bmuse embossing powders contain a heat activated glue
in the powder which will stick securely to the glass, but you must
get it completely melted to active it and let it cool completely.
Now this is a bit tricky getting a clear image but
if you notice once you have rolled it in the powder that your image
is smudged or basically messed up just wipe the glass clean with
alcohol this will remove any oils from the embossing powder ink,
let it dry and try again. Here are some samples to get you started:

Now what does one do with these little things??
I do try not to trouble myself with those sort of detail when I
am just playing...kills the creative spirit!
As you can see with the Altered Book Ornament at
the top of this page I did find some uses and here are some other
things I came up with.

Now go emboss some glass...remember it takes a bit
longer to get the glass heated and it does stay hot for quite a
while...so once you are done don't touch for a bit. Have fun and
don't burn your fingers!!
